Yellow diamond-shaped signs alert you to potential hazards ahead. Reduce speed and increase your concentration when you see these signs.
Warning signs prepare you for road conditions ahead. They don’t prohibit action—they warn of hazards. When you see one, immediately reduce speed and increase your alertness.
Examiners watch how you respond to warning signs. Show you’ve seen the sign by: (1) Reducing speed, (2) Checking mirrors, (3) Increasing concentration, (4) Preparing for the hazard ahead.
Red prohibition signs (NO…) and blue mandatory signs (MUST…). These are legal requirements you MUST obey or face fines/penalties.
RED CIRCLE = PROHIBITION: “No entry,” “No parking,” “No overtaking” — Do NOT do it.
BLUE CIRCLE = MANDATORY: “Keep right,” “Go straight,” “Turn left” — You MUST do it.
Failing to obey a regulatory sign is an immediate test failure. These are LEGAL requirements. When you see red = STOP / DON’T DO IT. When you see blue = MUST DO IT. No exceptions.

Orange temporary signs take precedence over permanent signs. When roadworks are present, follow the temporary signs’ instructions even if permanent signs say otherwise. Reduce speed and stay alert.
During your test, demonstrate that you treat temporary signs with appropriate caution. When you encounter roadworks, show the examiner that you’re aware of the hazards and responding with reduced speed and increased alertness.
Blue signs providing mandatory instructions and information on motorways, cycle lanes, shared paths, and other facility-specific guidance.
Blue signs with white symbols are mandatory signs. On motorways, these signs control traffic flow and indicate lane restrictions. You must obey them. Information signs help you navigate and find facilities.
You may not encounter a motorway during your test, but if you do (on rare test routes), demonstrate that you understand motorway signs and follow them precisely. Show confident, smooth driving with appropriate lane discipline.
